Why I built Ardent
A behind-the-scenes look at the problem we’re solving for breeders, and why we’re building Ardent with welfare-first workflows.
Where Ardent came from
Ardent was not designed for breeders from the outside. It started inside a family cattery, from the notebooks and spreadsheets that were never quite good enough when a kitten needed watching. Every feature since has been shaped alongside breeders running live litters, which is why the daily weigh-in comes first and the paperwork follows from it rather than the other way round.

Why we build it this way
Ethical breeding asks two things at once: care for the animals in front of you, and care for the generations after them. Welfare shows up in daily weights, feeding notes, vaccination dates, and knowing early when a kitten is falling behind. Genetic health shows up in pedigrees, coefficient of inbreeding, and being honest about a pairing before it happens. Most breeders track both, across a notebook, a spreadsheet, and memory. Ardent exists so those two halves live in one record that holds up when a new family, a vet, or a registry asks. Prove it, rather than promise it.
Cat-first, by design
We are London-based, and everything we ship today is built and tested with cat breeders: queens, studs, litters, kittens, and the GCCF and TICA paperwork that comes with them. The underlying system is animal-type agnostic, so support for other species is a matter of when rather than whether. We would rather do cats properly than do several species vaguely, so we are not putting dates against that.
What Early Access means
Ardent is live and in use, not a closed beta or a waiting list. Early Access means you can sign up and start recording today, on the free plan or a paid one, while the product is still taking shape around the people using it. Your feedback reaches a small team directly and tends to show up in the product. In return, Early Access members keep their rate for twelve months from signup, and anyone who helps us test gets six months of Pro after launch. The pricing page has the detail.
